Wave Relay® MANET technology offers enormous potential for unmanned systems such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), unmanned ground vehicles (UGV), unmanned surface vehicles (USV) and autonomous surface vehicles (ASV).
Integration of a Wave Relay® MANET enabled product as the primary communications datalink, such as the MPU5 radio or embedded module, will enable unparalleled throughput of over 100mbps. By adding the Wave Relay® tracking antenna, the range between two nodes can exceed 200km. This level of throughput can be utilised for a variety of applications including full motion video (FMV), relaying sensor data, and communication range extension.
Taking the example of a UAV system, by replacing many of the existing elements on the platform with Wave Relay®, the entire fleet of UAV’s can communicate on one common network whilst also saving on size, weight, power and cost. Furthermore, a Wave Relay® radio module can eliminate the requirement for a separate video encoding capability, video and RF transmitters, computing power, and air to ground command and control datalink.
Because Wave Relay® has been designed to operate in RF challenging environments, UGV’s equipped with a Wave Relay® datalink can be used reliably in situations where it may be inconvenient, dangerous, or impossible to have a human operator present. The same is true of USV or ASV systems, where a Wave Relay® datalink can provide a reliable means of command and control, whilst also supporting a link for payload data, situational awareness and multiple streams of HD video.
